PRODUCT DETAILS
This stunning copper engraved, hand-coloured image was published in Paris around 1770, and is in excellent condition with vibrant watercolour.
Vue Prise a Bordeaux is an optical print meaning that it was designed to be viewed with an optical gadget popular at the time that would bring the perspective to light and give the viewer a greater illusion of depth. This atmospheric scene shows the river port surrounded by elegant symmetrical facades belonging to the wealthy merchants contrasting to the bustling traders making their way along the dockside. In the foreground a large merchantman sits docked on the Garonne, waiting for her cargo.
To best showcase the eye-catching details of the piece and its excellent contemporary colouring, we have framed this in a simple vintage frame the colour of which looks handsome against the tones of the antique laid paper. This piece would add character and interest to many settings.
