The Iris, Crocus and Gladioli Series

Dating from 1842 these copper engravings were commissioned by the eminent German botanist Franz Leonland Von Schlectendal to illustrate Flora von Deutschland. They are of extremely high quality and the hand colouring is exquisite. Eleven engravings in the series depict garden favourites such as Iris, gladioli and crocus in all their fragile glory. It is a delight to see how carefully the delicate translucent petals have been rendered. 

In order to preserve the quality and feel of the original engravings we have used by museum archivists for scanning and are publishing a limited print run on Canson art paper. The only adjustments made to the original were removing age stains and increasing the size. No compositional or colour changes were made.
